It has more to do with The Great Flickr Migration than anything. It's forcing me to go back and rummage through the old dusty photos from my blog's youth.

The sunrise picture just reminded me of some of your excellent sky shots of late, and I took the opportunity to try and impress you.

What a great post. Thanks for pointing me toward it via the sunset picture. I'm guessing that the fact that I'm seeing this and commenting on it one year to the day after it was posted has less to do with pure chance than it does with your 'one year ago' widget...?

Hugh Morton died last week. He was best known for being the owner of Grandfather Mountain, but also well known for his many photographs. Mostly he took nature photos, although his most famous picture was probably the Charlotte skyline taken from Grandfather Mountain. Right to the end (eighty-something) he was an official photographer for Tarheel basketball. I heard him say on the radio once that he HAD to keep doing that, because he enjoyed watching the games, and because it drove him crazy attending such a sporting event without a camera in his hands, watching so many exciting moments going by, unmemorialized by film.
