When I wrote that line, it did occur to me that I didn't have any pictures of the people sitting outside. This is a matter of desensitization, I'm afraid. What gave you pleasure to see seems very normal to me now. I will try to keep my audience more in mind and remember my initial awe about cultural differences.

I liked both pictures of the trees in the meadow in the sunlight. I must say though, after reading your lead-in - "the tables in the streets in front of bars were packed with customers" - I was looking forward to seeing pictures of those people. When there, it gave me great pleasure watching the people flood the bars.

It's between Colindres and Treto, the town bordering Colindres on the opposite side from Laredo.

I considered that it might be a dogwood blossom. You can't go through the North Carolina public school system without knowing how to recognize a the state flower and knowing the Jesus dogwood crucifixion myth.

But I never recalled seeing the leaves between the petals like they are in the symbol. See?

You're probably correct, though.

I don't remember seeing the lighthouse. Is it between Colindres and Laredo? I think that what you describe as a four petal rose is really a dogwood blossom. Still could be some religious symbolism as it is often purported that the crucifixion cross was made from a dogwood tree. Related myths hold that ever after the cross incident, God made dogwood trees too small to be used for that purpose again. Also, the rusty looking notches on each petal edge are supposed to represent the blood of Christ. Make of it what you will . . .
