This was probably not home-distilled, since it was served in a bar, but very similar to the stuff that is. I'm pretty sure that what they were drinking was a form of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aguardiente" rel="nofollow">aguardiente</a>, which is made from distilling the remains of grapes (must?) after making wine. Actually I was never even close to being drunk the whole time in Spain despite numerous glasses of vino tinto and champagne at the wedding. Strolling from bar to bar between drinks seems to be an excellent antidote for intoxication. Also the vast amount of bread consumed probably helps absorb the alcohol . . . well maybe not but they sure do have wonderful bread in Spain. Looking forward to the wedding and honeymoon pictures.
