I’ve been wanting to try my hand at writing a Greasemonkey script for a while. For those of you that don’t know, Greasemonkey is a Firefox add-on that lets you run any javascript that you want as if it were part of the web page you are viewing. The main point of this is to modify the document content somehow to make the page more to your liking (removing ads, adding useful buttons, etc.). The only site that I use very often that has a fairly wide selection of Greasemonkey scripts available for it is Flickr. So, without further ado, I present you with my script…
Flickr Group List Search
Flickr Group List Search makes it easier to find the groups you are looking for when you want to add a photo to a group. After using Flickr for a while and participating in the groups system, I have ended up with a lot of group memberships. I can only assume that other active Flickr users do too. The interface for adding a photo to a group is, frankly, pretty disgusting. You have to scroll through an alphabetically sorted list of the groups you belong to to find the group you want. But wait! Some group admins have given their groups wacky names with bizarre ascii symbols in them, so they don’t really sort alphabetically. In fact, I suspect that they do this precisely to solve the exact problem that this script solves!

Like you, almost all of the GM scripts I use are for Flickr. And like you, my involvement in Flickr’s groups has increased lately. I imagine this will be a highly useful addition. Thanks for doing it.
I don’t belong to many groups on Flickr, but I can see that if you use it a lot it could get annoying to find them. Good for you for solving the problem.
It depends on how
promiscuousstarved for attention you are. Adding your photos to relevant groups will dramatically increase the number of viewers you get. Sometimes high viewership can be turned into money or friends.
