Ensaladilla Rusa - Russian Salad

In the United States, you can find several mayonnaise-based salads: potato salad, tuna salad, and egg salad. In Spain, they don’t really have any of that, but they do have Ensaladilla Rusa (Russian Salad). Ensaladilla Rusa is a combination of all of the above.
My wife had a Russian immigrant friend when she was [...]

Sunflower Oil Recall

My wife works in an anchovy processing plant. They do the entire process: freshly caught fish go in and cans come out. Last Friday, she came home very stressed.

Afternoon Walk in Santander

After an amazing meal at Laury, my wife, her parents and I took a three hour stroll around Santander to get the digestive juices flowing. It was so nice to have some sunshine finally that I got a little shutter happy and took a bunch of photos. Believe it or not, I’m not [...]

Dough Rising

The last time I made pizza, I set up my camera to watch the dough rise for an hour. This video is the result. You must watch all 62 minutes of it, or my feelings will be hurt.

Tessellation

Last night Marga made a cheesecake for tonight’s dinner party. The tiled cookie crust looked like photographic fodder, so I took a few shots. Just before serving, the dish that it’s in will be turned upside down, leaving the crust you see here on the bottom of the cake. I can’t wait!

Homer Rice

On Saturday, we decided to have a light, easy lunch. I was sitting in the living room watching the Simpsons, and Marga was preparing lunch in the kitchen. It was that episode of the Simpsons where the Japanese steal Homer’s face to use as a detergent logo, Mr. Sparkle. Keep in mind [...]
