Ribs and Sardines

This weekend, we went to Mondragon to participate in some annual festivities at my in-laws’ social club, the Centro Extremeño. We really enjoyed the rib feast last year, and it didn’t disappoint this year either. And on Sunday there was free gazpacho and grilled sardines.

Lamb Dinner

Not this past Saturday, but the one before (the day before the storm), we had a lamb dinner with Marga’s family (uncles, aunts, and some cousins included) at the Centro Extremeño, where we had our wedding party extension. I got some good photos of the meat preparation that I wanted to share before any [...]

Basque Storm

On Sunday in Mondragon, we had a tremendous thunderstorm come through and drop a ton of rain and hail. Luckily, we were all safe inside my in-laws’ house. It sure was fun a hail of a good time to watch.

As promised, here are the official wedding photos. I’m very pleased with how they turned out. Photos of such an important day are really invaluable. We really had a great time.
If you prefer, you can browse them by thumbnail. Or have a full-window slideshow.

Last Weekend in Mondragon

Last weekend, we went to Mondragon to visit my inlaws. It was the first time I’d been there since New Years, which was my longest stretch without seeing my political family since moving to Spain. Plus, Marga’s grandfather had had a bad case of the flu and was feeling weak and mortal.
After staying [...]

Johann Strauss, the Pope, and a dachshund walk into a bar…

For the past four or five years, I’ve enjoyed one particular New Years ritual immensely. If you live in Europe, or ever spend New Years in Europe, you must try this:
Every year, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra gives a New Years concert in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna, consisting almost entirely of [...]

In Spain, the most important time around Christmas is the family meal on the evening of the 24th, called Nochebuena.
